Most people build a career in one lane. Dr. Ugonna Nwigwe built three — and made them work together.
She is a healthcare transformation leader, clinician, and entrepreneur with over two decades of experience across Nigeria's public and private health sectors. As Deputy Director and Head of the Regulatory Standards, Governance and Compliance Division at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), she shapes the frameworks that govern how health insurance operates and how facilities are held accountable. Her work spans policy, accreditation, risk management, and institutional reform. It reaches millions of Nigerians whose access to quality care depends on a system that functions.
She is also the Founder and Creative Head of The Eye Place Eye Clinic and Optical Boutique in Abuja — a patient-centred practice that blends clinical excellence with the kind of service experience most Nigerian clinics do not offer. She built it from the ground up while working full-time in public service. That discipline is not a footnote. It is the point.
